Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kristin van Ogtrop and James Huniford Walk Into the Met Pavilion...

housingworks.jpgAnd a benefit breaks out. On May 8, the trio will host the kickoff gala for the fourth annual Design on Dimes charity event, which is presented by van Ogtrop's Real Simple. Thirty interior designers, including Sills Huniford, Thom Filica, Charlotte Moss and Jamie Drake (we're oh-for-four in the name recognition game), will display room vignettes created specifically for the event. Merchandise of some sort will be sold for 60 to 80 percent off retail price through May 10. All proceeds benefit Housing Works.

There will be a silent auction for photographs, although sadly not one for a date with Gyllenhal, who's happily engaged to that lucky bastard Peter Sarsgaard. We'll settle for a nice drape set.

UPDATE: We've obtained an exclusive list of the designers participating. Now we're oh-for-thirty.

30 Top Interior Designers to Create One-of-a-kind Room Vignettes

New York, NY (May 2, 2008)— Housing Works Thrift Shops announced today that its fourth-annual Design on a Dime charity event will take place Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10 at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street, New York City). Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal will join designer James Huniford (Sills Huniford) and Real Simple managing editor, Kristin van Ogtrop as co-chairs. Design on a Dime is presented by Real Simple.

Design on a Dime is an interior-design extravaganza that commences with a VIP kickoff cocktail party at the Metropolitan Pavilion from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, May 8. This year will introduce the first-ever silent auction of photographs. The event is followed by a spectacular two-day sale of brand new merchandise from the world's leading interior designers and brands at 60 to 80 percent off retail prices. Thirty participating designers — including Sills Huniford, Thom Filica, Charlotte Moss and Jamie Drake — will showcase the Design on a Dime merchandise through 30 breathtaking, one-of-a-kind room vignettes. All proceeds benefit Housing Works.

The Thursday kick-off VIP event will include exclusive preview shopping, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment. For tickets, please call 212.645.8111 x164 or log on to www.housingworks.org/dime. The Friday and Saturday sale is free and open to the public.

"We're so grateful for the outpouring of support from the interior design community for Design on a Dime," said Housing Works Senior Vice President of Business Services Matthew Bernardo. "Every year, the event keeps getting bigger and better, and that means that Housing Works is able to help more homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV get the care they need."

"'Design on a Dime' brings the classic decorator showroom to a whole new level," said James Huniford, co-chair and founder of Design on a Dime. "This is a wonderful event made possible by the many talented interior designers who donate goods and services to benefit Housing Works, one of New York's most vital HIV/AIDS organizations. We are grateful to have the support of Real Simple magazine as our partner in this event."

"We are thrilled to partner with Housing Works for the second year to support this wonderful cause," said Kristin van Ogtrop, managing editor, Real Simple. "We have a long list of incredible interior designers on-board this year, and I'm personally looking forward to fun shopping to benefit this terrific organization."

All proceeds from Design on a Dime go to Housing Works, New York City's largest community-based AIDS organization. Founded in 1990, Housing Works provides housing, medical care, job training and other lifesaving services to homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.

Real Simple launched in March 2000 and has quickly become one of the industry’s biggest success stories. Reaching an audience of over 7 million readers each month, Real Simple has expanded its brand promise, "life made easier," to books, international editions, a weekly TV show on TLC premiering in Fall 2008, online (www.realsimple.com), product lines sold at Target, a syndicated newspaper column and XM Satellite Radio.
