There's no such thing as a free purse. Except if you're a beauty editor, in which case half your accessories are gifted, says the lovely JolieNYC. Trouble is, all the beauty editors get the same gifts, so if you're caught wearing them at the same event don't you feel like a loser. Advice from the inside: "Most beauty editors adhere to an unbreakable rule: do not wear or carry to an event anything you have been gifted." I can think of a little something in Genesis 38:3-10 that most guys have trouble with: Esquire's AJ Jacobs just sold his new book, "The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Obey the Bible as Literally as Possible," wherein he tries to obey all the edicts of the Old and New Testaments from the Ten Commandments to turning that other cheek. Proud buyer is Geoff Kloske at Simon & Schuster; proud agent is ICM's Sloan Harris 'cause apparently it was a "significant deal." For his last book, "Know It All," Jacobs tried to become the smartest man in the world by reading the encyclopedia - thus giving me the perfect opporunity to bridge the two books with an awful pun: "The Geek Shall Inherit." I'm here all week, folks.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia: Bill O'Reilly has challenged ABC's Terry Moran to a duel, obviously hoping that Terry Moran is not left-handed. He scoffed at Moran's claim yesterday that Fox News is "a friendly news channel" to the White House and invited him on the show to "back up his bloviating." Then he asked Moran to "fetch him that pitcher." Aw. [TVNewser]
