Media Minutiae: "Rosy Cheeks, No Warts" Edition

  • Top searches on Technorati right now: #1 - "Karl Rove"; # 2 - "Harry Potter" ...and #4 - "Helaine Olen," author of the I-fired-my-hot-nanny-whose-blog-made-me-feel-kind-of-funny-and-tingly column in this Sunday's NYT. Wow, that story's got legs. #9 is "Yubnub." Apparently it's a 'social command line' for the web. Dude, I barely understand podcasting (which still leaves me one up on Pauly Shore). Ay, there's the yubnub.

  • MSNBC, are you actually listening to me? Apparently Jay Severin is out of 'The Situation' (which by the way, was better on Friday night than I've ever seen it. Seriously. That Karen Hunter was smart and spicy, and the conversation was zippy. But Tucker, if you're gonna have the rapper on your show, don't blusteringly apologize for it all through the segment). Page Six makes it sound like Severin wanted out; TVNewser says nay. He also implies via a tipster that Severin's behavior may have wanted for propriety out at MSNBC headquarters. I say there's a Seacaucus joke in here somewhere.

  • How can I miss you if you won't go away? And, more to the point, when will men stop saying that to me? But in this case, the converse applies: Sweet New Yorker, where are you? Honey, you can't be sexy if it's a week later and you still haven't arrived. I'm just sayin'. New Yorker subscription people, FYI. Gimme the sexy. Update: Oh, I get it, suddenly you're "not publishing" and "just don't have time for me." Whatever. Hope you enjoyed your "week off" on your "summer schedule" (er, didn't realize the New Yorker was off last week. My bad).

  • "I have long believed in the importance of granting the public greater access to information about their government -- the good and the bad." Thus spake Donald Rumsfeld in today's WSJ. Ah, the WSJ. Free flow of information + Dwarf contact info = PARTY!!!

Lyrics to "Perfect Nanny" from Mary Poppins after the jump, just because I have a cheery disposition, and won't scold or dominate you. Unless you ask real nicely.

If you want this choice position
    Have a cheery disposition
    Rosy cheeks, no warts
    Play games, all sorts

You must be kind, you must be witty
    Very sweet and fairly pretty
Take us on outings, give us treats
    Sing songs, bring sweets

    Never be cross or cruel
Never give us castor oil or gruel
Love us as a son and daughter
And never smell of barley water

If you won't scold and dominate us
We will never give you cause to hate us
We won't hide your spectacles so you can't see
Put toads in your bed or pepper in your tea

    Hurry, Nanny
    Many thanks sincerely
    Jane and Michael Banks
