Mid-Morning Media Miscellany: 06.23.2005Rita Cosby is okay by Katherine Jackson, unlike SOME people we know: Former Foxer Rita Cosby has been making her bones at MSNBC left and right, this time with her MJ mom Katherine Jackson interview, aired in part on the "Today" show Tuesday and in extend-a-mix form last night on Scarborough Country. In it, Jackson mère blames "two wicked women" for besmirching her son in the eyes of the American viewing public. Nancy Grace and Diane Diamond, safest guesses ever? Check the transcript here, courtesy of TVNewser. Min mostly in: Us Magazine editor Janice Min, who succeeded Bonnie Fuller and succeeded wildly, has been in protracted contract negotiations with Jann Wenner for ages now as her contract comes up for renewal. She's good and he knows it, and it looks like he shows it, to the tune of $1.2 million plus bonues, according to Keith Kelly. It's not quite official yet, but we'll let you know what Bucky Turco has to say. [NYP] What's with the furor, Führer? Senator Durbin apologizes for invoking Hitler in condemning U.S. treatment of Guantanamo Bay prisoners; everyone else smacks their forehead because invoking Hitler makes you look like a tool. Mark Leibovich at WaPo says so, and if your response to that is, well, who the fuck is he? well then Mickey Kaus says so too, on his Slate blog and in conversation with James Taranto on Kudlow & Company. Jon Stewart has been eviscerating the Hitler-invokers too, on both sides of the Schiavo debate and liberally sprinkled across the Gitmo hoopla. If you doubt, consider Godwin's Law, which basically states that invoking Hitler is a conversation-ender. Which must be true because it's on Wikipedia. Wiki wiki wiki! This is just a flimsy excuse to invoke Corey Hart: Big sunglasses are in. The future's bright. [NYT] Email This Post |
