Media Minutiae, What's Worse, Having Your Really Bad Poetry Published In Page Six Or Being A Total Dick? Edition
Hmmm, what rhymes with "Time to start working on your résumé?" Fishbowl gets riled by gratuitous nastiness, but when you can't even do a reasonable job on spoofing "The Night Before Christmas" that's when we really get annoyed. Today's mean-spirited poem about Katie Couric reprinted in Page Six is not only totally below the belt, but the rhymes are excruciating (especially to a city well-versed in Sondheim). Honestly, crappy NBC poet, Katie deserves her $20 million salary for putting up with pricks like you. Sorry, but bad meter really upsets us. [NYP]
Howard on Howard: "A Bruised Flower, Blossoming Anew": Speaking of poetry, Howard Kurtz gets inspired by Howard Stern in today's WaPo. Is it me, or does it feel weird to have our little Howie writing about 1000 pairs of exposed breasts? Cover your eyes, Howie! Quick! [WaPo]
Everybody loves Alka-Seltzer! The NYT reports that Alka-Seltzer is remaking classic commercials from the early 70s in new spots featuring Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, thus finally giving NYT advertising beat writer Stuart Elliott the opportunity to use "plop plop, fizz fizz" in a headline. Oh, what a relief it is! [NYT]
MSNBC, knocking Justice Sunday out of the top spot: A two-fer for Stu Elliott on Fishbowl: he reports that on Wednesday, MSNBC will be flooding the ad zone on Slate, Newsweek.com and WashingtonPost.com, the first such time any single advertiser will take over on all three sites. The ads, touting Keith Olbermann, Joe Scarborough, and Rita Cosby (aw - poor Dan Abrams and Tucker!), will also run on blogs, including on our own beloved TVNewser. p.s. That hed is a TVNewser joke. We love our advertisers! [NYT]
