In this month's issue of Harper's Bazaar, Judith Regan (pictured, done up all Bazaar style), runs PR interference and talks about her departure from HarperCollins:

I felt like Faye Dunaway's character in the final scene of Bonnie and Clyde. Bullets flying from every direction.

The mindless attacks against me for interviewing O.J. Simpson and getting what I always believed was his confession were vicious, personal, and unrelenting. I was harshly criticized for a book no one had read and an interview no one had seen. People lost all perspective.

I had calls from around the world. The tabloid headlines were everywhere. "Did you murder someone?" a friend texted from Shanghai. "Come to China. You're not safe in America."

It was terrifying. The powers that be had incited mayhem in the mob, and the riotous crowd was rabid. There were personal vendettas, political vendettas, professional jealousies, death threats. I had people harassing me everywhere, coming to my home and my office to threaten me, and leaving vicious messages on my voice mail. For days it was too frightening to leave my apartment. I got boxes of hate mail. Suddenly, there were people I'd never met claiming to the press that they were my friends or lovers. I even read an article in which someone stated that I had male genitalia. The distortions were off the wall. If I hadn't been in the middle of it, I would have been chasing me for the book and film rights.
