"Might Judy Miller be doing time for not talking about a non-crime?"Okay, that really does sound like something out of Alice and Wonderland, and a whole lot more complicated than Math Club. Learned big brother FishbowlDC points to the fine print of the law-that-Rove-maybe-broke-maybe-didn't (but he won't say, McClellan can't say and those redacted eight pages might say), which requires that a "covert agent" must have been on a long-term assignment abroad "within the last five years." The Wilsons have been in Washington for over six years. Per Mark Memmott of USA Today: "Unless she was really stationed abroad sometime after their marriage," she wasn't a covert agent protected by the law, says Bruce Sanford, an attorney who helped write the 1982 act that protects covert agents' identities.I'm going to go out on the tiniest of limbs and say that someone MUST have thought of that. There's been a lot of stupidity around this case, but it's all been ideological, not the kind of actual hard-core dumbassery it would take for everyone to miss this. But, you know, you never know. In other news, it's not very nice to snicker about poor Scott McClellan but honestly, you can't make this kind of comedy up: Q: Will Karl come back and talk to us at the event?[Also via FishbowlDC] And in still other news, some might think Rove should be axed, might even want him to be, but would you put money on it? 'Cause according to Oddjack, not a lot of people would. More Karl Rove Bets: Doesn't Anybody Think This Guy Will Get In Trouble? [Oddjack] Email This Post |
