‘Mitch’ Writing Screenplay For ‘Sandman’
Mitch Albom is about to become even wealthier. The Tuesdays With Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven author will be developing a movie for Adam Sandler. Columbia Pictures and Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions just bought Albom’s first screenplay. It’s going to be “a baseball comedy with emotional elements.” Albom and Sandler? Maudlin subplots and goofball impersonations expected. Reports Albom:
“He had been interested years ago in making ‘Tuesdays With Morrie’ into a film, but by the time he got in contact with us, we had already signed with Oprah‘s company … Then he expressed interest in the new one, ‘For One More Day,’ but Oprah got that one, too. He was teasing me, ‘Oprah, Oprah, how come always with Oprah?’ So I sent him the treatment for this idea I had, and about a month later, he called up and said, ‘Mitch, it’s Sandman.’ And everything has been pretty easy after that.”
Ugh.
