If we had a choice of who we’d want near us when we got mowed down by gang-related gun spray. We think Molly Hennessy-Fiske would be on the top on our list. First, she’s shockingly pale so when waving down help she’s easy to spot from a distance. Second she knows CPR from when she was in Iraq. Third she lacks the sense to run AWAY from gunfire opting to run toward it.
These are all very nice qualities if you’re the one catching a stray bullet in your femur. We’re just saying. Ahem.
Molly writes about working on a story about a shooting in South LA and yet another shooting going down while she was there. She helped the victim of the attack and it’s a Column One today.
Also read Molly’s piece about the Guatemalan women soccer players in MacArthur Park. Try and read it without getting a little choked up. Go on. Try.
