More Discover to Discover Online

discoverB.pngTalk about crystal ball! Did you know it was exactly 20 years ago today that Discover magazine ran a cover story by current NYT’s reporter Andy Revkin about global warming? Ah, the cruelty of hindsight. Revkin’s currently over at Discover’s new science and politics blog Reality Base talking about those very predictions (“not much was really wrong”) and how far we’ve come in solving the problem (30 seconds of any newscast in the last two weeks should answer that question pretty quickly for you).

Anyway, this is all by way of our pointing out that Reality Base, penned by our one-time HuffPo colleague, and former Freakonomics.com editor Melissa Lafsky is one of a number of new blogs Discover is launching next Tuesday along with a completely redesigned site.

We’re told the additional blogs will include Better Planet and Science Not Fiction (it’s unclear how much Star Trek will be involved in this one).

Lafsky tells us Reality Base aims to be “an agenda-free look at the intersection of science and politics, which is an increasingly crucial realm since the two don’t have the best track record of working together.” Let’s hope in 20 years we’ll be singing a different tune on that one.
