MPA Announces Changes To Awards

Magazine Publishers of America president Nina Link today announced changes in the magazine industry’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Two industry awards, the Henry Johnson Fisher Award honoring “individuals who have made significant and longstanding contributions to the magazine publishing industry and society,” and the American Society of Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame Award will now be presented at separate events. The Henry Johnson Fisher Awards will be presented at the American Magazine Conference, to be held next year in Chicago, while the Hall of Fame Award will be presented at next April’s National Magazine Awards, where it was first presented.

The New York Times also reported this morning that ASME is adding 12 more categories to its National Magazine Awards, covering online media. The online awards will be presented in March.

Magazine Lifetime Achievement Awards to Be Presented at Two Premier Industry Events Beginning 2010

New York, NY (October 14, 2009) — The magazine industry’s Lifetime Achievement Awards, traditionally held as a joint celebration hosted by Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) and the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), will now be divided into two separate presentations, it was announced today by Nina Link, President and CEO, MPA.

MPA’s Henry Johnson Fisher Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant and longstanding contributions to the magazine publishing industry and society, will now be presented at a gala dinner at the association’s annual membership confab, the American Magazine Conference. The next American Magazine Conference will be held October 3-5, 2010, in Chicago, IL.

“As the premier gathering for the industry’s top executives, the American Magazine Conference is the ideal place to celebrate the lifelong achievements and valuable contributions of Henry Johnson Fisher Awards recipients,” said Ms. Link.

As announced earlier today at the Magazine Innovation Summit, ASME’s Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame Award, honoring the career-long achievement, excellence and impact of a select group of highly influential magazine editors, will once again be presented at the National Magazine Awards, where it was first presented. The 2010 National Magazine Awards is slated for April in New York, NY.

The Henry Johnson Fisher Award, established in 1964, recognizes individuals who have made significant and longstanding contributions to the magazine publishing industry and society, and who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, skill and understanding in support of the industry. Henry Johnson Fisher was Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Popular Science Publishing Company. Previous winners have included Cathie P. Black, Hearst Magazines; William T.
