You know a story is big when Oprah calls

NBC News President Steve Capus and NBC Nightly News anchorman Brian Williams went on Oprah today to defend the network’s decision to air images and footage sent by Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho.

“We hit the brake pedal,” Capus said of the choice to wait until 6:00PM to show the footage, which arrived at NBC headquarters in New York around 11:00AM.

Williams agreed, adding, “However uncomfortable it is, it proves this was journalism. This was news and a material advance in the story.”
