New York To Launch Events Series, Publish Mini Mag
Brand extension alert: New York magazine is launching an events series, New York by New York, beginning with an “indie rock karaoke” party in Williamsburg hosted by Of Montreal — a band, fittingly, from Athens, Georgia — and Brooklyn-based Michael Showalter, who appears to be overtaking David Cross as go-to ubiquitous host for indie-leaning events.
The magazine plans five other events, including a “bad art” auction and “secret” dinner party in which “a New York celebrity chef hosts a dinner party with musical talent at a location to be revealed on the day of the event.”
New York is also cobbling together “an easy-to-carry metropolitan survival guide for young people.” Each ticket buyer receives a one-year subscription to New York magazine.
