Juke, CNet's unborn music site, was set to make waves in the Internet music world. Former Blender editor Craig Marks was going to edit music content, while contributors included former Village Voice blogger Tom Breihan, Pitchfork Media contributor Ryan Dombal, and Nothing Feels Good writer Andy Greenwald.

Unfortunately, Juke won't see the light of day. Today, CBS Interactive, which owns CNet, shut down the site before it ever launched, firing everyone involved.

Silicon Alley Insider writes that since CBS already owns Last.fm, Juke was essentially a cost the network could cut in order to attempt to make its $1.8 billion purchase of CNet financially viable.

With Pandora in a state of flux due to hikes in royalty rates, things aren't looking good for music on the Internet, although former Facebooker Owen Van Natta did just sign on to helm Project Playlist.
