Yesterday we told you about a new search engine that had just launched, which was being heralded as the best thing since Google. Better actually. And created by a former Google employee no less. Well, apparently Cuil (pronounced "cool") had a less than auspicious start. However, first days are always tough, so we decided to check back in today to see if things had smoothed out and/or whether Cuil had ceased to confuse George Pataki with Bill Clinton (the answer on that is no). And lo and behold it seems to be functioning.

Thus far the biggest difference of note is that Cuil appears to be a very visual experience. Search results come in three columns (you have the option to change to two) and contain a large part of the entry they link to. We don't happen to be icon-organizing sort of people so actually we find this a somewhat confusing way to view information, but maybe that's just a result of Google mangling our brain. Also, there's no image option, which in our world is a dealbreaker in and of itself. However, Cuil will finish your search sentences for you if you like, always a plus for tired fingers, brains.
