In this ridiculous world of New York celebrity, it's always nice to know where you stand. Thanks to FameGame.com, you can. All the time. Immediately. (Or at least as soon as the pics from last night's party arrive.)

FameGame, which currently "maps the connections between roughly 100,000 influential New Yorkers and over 2,500 New York organizations," tracks fame using photos, media mentions and search trends. Think SocialiteRank.com but with an algorithm. The site boasts essential information such as the distance between Gwyneth Paltrow and Kanye West (four steps) or Marc Jacobs and Tara Subkoff (two degrees, with Jamie King as the link).

But why start FameGame in the first place?

This web site grew out of a documentary film that was investigating the celebrity media space in New York. We were interested in why celebrity news was steadily creeping into mainstream media, why boldface names dominate our national discussion, and why everyone seemed to criticize talking about Paris Hilton... and yet continue to do it anyway.

We, of course, don't have a profile. Somehow, that's okay with us.
