Gawker, Yahoo End Syndication Deal; Valleywag's Persecution of Braun 'Cast a Pall Over the Relationship'
Gawker Media and Yahoo! are ending their content partnership, Gawker Media founder Nick Denton announced yesterday. "The bald truth is that the deal, which we announced in November, garnered way more attention than we expected, but less traffic," Denton wrote in a blog post yesterday. Finally, yes, Valleywag's persecution of Lloyd Braun, head of Yahoo Media, probably cast a pall over the relationship. But Yahoo execs, while they occasionally made their displeasure known, never pressured us to remove a post. Denton also mentioned Gawker's "peculiarly coastal, geeky and freaky demographic" as a factor in the fizzling of the deal a peculiarity that Gawker Media has made recent strides to change.
