Stardoll Magazine: Because Girls Needed More Fashion Advice

stardoll10.09.08.jpgHearst Corporation isn't the only company launching magazines these days. Stardoll, "the world's largest online destination for fashion enthusiasts" that we hadn't heard of until an hour ago, is launching an Internet only magazine in conjunction with Elle.

Elle editor Malina Joseph will have "an official voice within Stardoll Magazine by posting blog items and personal style tips, streaming exclusive video dispatches with notable fashion designers and engaging in live chats with the community. What the release doesn't mention is that Joseph is the "fashion bookings editor," not exactly Roberta Myers. Whatevs, it counts as brand extension.

Release all dolled up after the jump.

Hollywood, CA and New York, NY — October 9, 2008 — Stardoll, the world's largest online destination for fashion enthusiasts, today announced the launch of the all-new Stardoll Magazine — a strictly online media property tailored to the interests of the more than 21 million fashion-forward young women worldwide who already belong to the Stardoll community.

Bringing the new title a colorful array of content offerings will be ELLE Magazine (a publication of Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S., www.hfmus.com) and ELLE.com, which kicked off a unique media partnership with Stardoll today. Per the partnership, ELLE has established four content feeds linking Stardoll to ELLE's popular fashion and beauty blogs, including: "Street Chic," "Fashion Spotlight," "Red Carpet Coverage" and "Trends."

ELLE magazine editor Malina Joseph, will have an official voice within Stardoll Magazine by posting blog items and personal style tips, streaming exclusive video dispatches with notable fashion designers and engaging in live chats with the community. As a "RealCeleb," Joseph will debut an avatar in a customized virtual suite housing a wardrobe that reflects her personal tastes and sense of style. In addition, Joseph will act as guest judge for design contests in which Stardoll's community of aspiring fashionistas will vie to become the next big name in fashion by using the site's StarDesign application to craft and "stitch" together virtual fabrics to create one-of-a-kind apparel from original designs.

In addition to spotlighting content from ELLE, Stardoll Magazine will produce original content with a focus on fashion, art, beauty, shopping, style and music. The magazine will be accessible in 15 different languages and will empower members to express themselves by encouraging the submission of user-generated content with the launch of new "StarBlogging" tools.

"We're excited to launch the all-new Stardoll Magazine and to partner with ELLE,” said Stardoll Executive Vice President and General Manager, Matt Palmer. "With our millions of fashion-savvy members across the world and ELLE's international reputation and global footprint as an arbiter of style, Stardoll magazine is well-poised to deliver entertaining and informative content to millions of young fashion, beauty and style enthusiasts worldwide."

"I'm looking forward to interacting with this enthusiastic group of fashionistas in so many fun and exciting ways," said Malina Joseph. "Stardoll is such a powerful community of fashion lovers and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

Stardoll receives more than 8 million unique visitors every month from across the globe — 94 percent of whom are teen and tween girls. One of the few places on the Internet designed specifically with girls' interests in mind, Stardoll began as the hobby of Scandinavian-born Liisa, a retired factory worker in her late 50s with a lifelong aspiration to become a famous fashion designer. She taught herself basic design programs on her computer and shared her fashion creations with a few friends. With the help of her son, she then posted those fashions on the Internet for others to see, and soon Stardoll grew into a passionate online community of millions from more than 200 countries worldwide.
