New Managing Editor At WSJ Online

A new managing editor at the Wall Street Journal: Almar Latour. He's being moved by Dow Jones from his current post as technology group bureau chief to take over as managing editor for the WSJ Online. The old managing editor, Bill Grueskin, was promoted back in June. Official memo after the jump from WSJ Online exec editor Alan Murray.

To all -

I'm delighted to announce that Almar Latour will become the new managing editor of The Wall Street Journal Online.

Those of you who know Almar will recognize why he's the right person to lead the Journal's website through a new era of global growth and change. As a bureau chief, he has distinguished himself both as a leader of journalists and as an analyst of technology trends. He has a deep and long-standing interest in the internet as a means of delivering news and information, and he comes to the new job bristling with ideas on how to take wsj.com -- already in a class of its own -- to new heights.

Almar, age 36, started as an intern for The Wall Street Journal Europe in Brussels in 1995 and later that year worked as a news assistant in the Journal's Washington Bureau.

In 1996, he became a reporter covering economic and political developments in Eastern Europe for the European Journal. In 1998, after a stint on spot news in New York, he was named the paper's Stockholm correspondent covering economic, political and business developments in Northern Europe and the Baltic states. He moved to the London Bureau in 2001 to write about European telecom and technology.

In 2003, he came to New York as a reporter in the New York Technology Group covering U.S. phone companies. In 2005, he was named deputy bureau chief, and later that year replaced Rebecca Blumenstein as bureau chief.

Almar shared a World Leadership Forum business journalism award for Best Story on Business Leadership for coverage of corporate culture at oil company Shell.

A native of the Netherlands, Almar holds an M.A. from American University in Washington, D.C. He studied under a Fulbright Center Campus Scholarship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor's degree.

He lives in New York with his wife and two daughters.

Almar will begin his new job effective Sept. 4.
