Since 'Young Hipsters Have All Moved To Brooklyn,' New Weekly Launches For Lower Manhattan

our_town_downtown.gif

Manhattan Media, the publisher of Avenue magazine, New York Family and the 36-year-old East side newspaper Our Town, has launched Our Town Downtown for Manhattan residents below 28th street.

Per the release:

"The demographics of Lower Manhattan have changed dramatically. Young hipsters who may have read publications like the Village Voice and the NY Press have all moved to Brooklyn," says Tom Allon, President & CEO of Manhattan Media. "In the same way that our uptown publications have loyal readerships of parents, elected officials and civic leaders, we expect these same influential groups will flock to Our Town downtown as well."

Uninfluential hipsters, then, will have to settle for things like New York magazine and Park Slope.

Fastest-Growing Media Company in New York City Launches NEW WEEKLY NEWSPAPER FOR LOWER MANHATTAN

New York, June 6 — As the Lower Manhattan real estate boom continues to develop downtown into a large-scale residential community, Manhattan Media, the fastest-growing media company in New York City that re-launched both AVENUE magazine in 2002 and the upscale family glossy New York Family in early 2006, has introduced yet another venture, a brand new weekly publication entitled Our Town downtown.

Spinning off from, Our Town, the 36 year-old, award-winning East Side weekly newspaper, Our Town downtown will target residents of Lower Manhattan who call the area below 28th Street home. This increasingly residential demographic includes more families than ever and the area is partially responsible for Manhattan's staggering 25% growth in children age 5 and under over the last 5 years.

Our Town downtown is editorially comprised of three major core areas: Real Estate, Education and Politics. These three sectors are of a natural concern because the area is becoming more and more residential and family-oriented.

The fastest-growing media company in Manhattan, Manhattan Media is the owner and publisher of Our Town and Our Town downtown as well as The West Side Spirit, Chelsea Clinton News, The Westsider, New York Family and the venerable chronicler of New York society, AVENUE magazine. Manhattan Media also produces the award-winning education resource guide and awards ceremony, "The Blackboard Awards," which honors excellence in education throughout New York City.
