Nielsen Skips Official Statement on Layoffs

The Nielsen Company’s chief press officer Gary Holmes said there wouldn’t be an official statement from the company on yesterday’s layoffs, said to number as high as 50. The most official word we could get, after the jump…


“It’s part of an ongoing restructuring of the company,” he said by phone last night. “It’s something we’ve been working on for over a year and a half — the announced plan to make the company more efficient.”

Despite varying reports about which titles and divisions of the company were affected, Holmes declined to clarify the record by specifying exactly where the layoffs occurred. “It’s across the entire organization,” he said. “It’s no one particular area or brand.”
