NYTimes.com Debuts ‘TimesCast’ Midday Digital Video

nyt03222010.jpgThe New York Times today rolled out its new lunchtime digital video show, “TimesCast.” The program is scheduled to appear at the top of the Times web site from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Today’s video clocked in at 6:19. It opened to a jazz drum soundtrack with a video of this morning’s editorial meeting, during which Times staffers discussed the recently passed health care bill, the future of Google’s role in China, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s remarks on Israel.

Times senior editor Jane Bornemeier appears to be the face of the program for the moment. She appeared multiple times in the video to interview associate managing editor Jim Roberts and White House correspondent Sheryl Gay Stolberg. Senior editor Marcus Marby also interviewed business reporter Louise Story about her look at government aid for homeowners who are having trouble with their mortgages. The video closes with a wide shot of the Times‘ enormous bullpen.

Basically as it stands now the video is just a recap of some of the day’s biggest headlines and a few Times reporters talking about their own stories. We do love the heavy use of jazz percussion, though.
