NYU Alum Talks About the Who, What and Wear of Fashion Journalism

The masthead of fashion and celebrity style website whowhatwear.com is crowned by editorial director Hillary Kerr. After graduating from NYU ‘s graduate journalism program in 2002 and working at Elle magazine, Kerr headed to LA to launch the website.

Today, whowhatwear.com boasts a reported daily readership reach of one million plus. So how did Kerr get from NYU to LA wow? Via interview with campus newnspaper Washington Square News, she gives props to her Alma Mater:

“I learned how to report at NYU and how to be diligent about getting the information I needed for a story. That combination of perseverance and understanding how to really research and report was extremely helpful and valuable in the real world. Gary Belsky and Mary Quigley were the two professors who taught me everything I know.”

Kerr also stresses the importance of interning. As an undergrad, she did so herself with a number of publications including Australian Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and San Diego Magazine. To read the full interview, click here.
