The question “When did you get laid off?” is quickly becoming the “Where were you when Elvis died?” query of this era. It was a question faced on today’s mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu in the light of the fall out at Condé Nast this week.

This morning hosts Jason Boog of GalleyCat and AgencySpy‘s Matt Van Hoven welcomed FishbowlNY editor Amanda Ernst, who has been furiously covering every update coming out of 4 Times Square. All three have been laid off in the past few years, and they discovered that it’s becoming harder and harder to meet people who haven’t gotten and pink slip.

Besides their own layoff stories, the group discussed the shake up at Condé, its effects on the industry and what is coming next for magazines and the media. Will the business model change?

Also discussed: President Barack Obama‘s Nobel Peace Prize and a couple of this week’s events, the More magazine Reinvention Convention and mediabistro.com’s panel for women’s magazine editors.
