Pentagon Limits Soldiers’ Access to MySpace, YouTube. Not Soon Enough For Dr. Laura

armychr.jpgAccording to the Santa Barbara Independent, Dr. Laura is taking some time off from her column in the Santa Barbara News-Press following a story about her soldier son Deryk Schlessinger’s disturbing MySpace page.

Seems Deryk’s MySpace page (which has been taken down) showed him to be a deeply disturbed lil’ “warrior,” who says he loves being stationed in Kandahar because “it takes everything reckless and deviant and heathenistic [sic] and just overall bad about me and hyper focuses these traits into my job of running around this horrid place doing nasty things to people that deserve it . . . and some that don’t.”

When a Salt Lake Tribune reporter called the Army about the MySpace page, officials said they hadn’t heard about it. “Coincidentally,” the SBI writes, “last week the Pentagon began restricting access on its international computer systems to social networking sites such as MySpace and YouTube, citing security concerns and technological traffic jams.”
