People Launches New Subscription Model

We heard rumors of Time Inc. launching new subscription models last week, and now it’s official. First up is People. The glossy has announced a new tiered subscrpriton system that gives readers plenty of options.

Key to the new system is People Premium, a subscriber-only site. It features content not found on People.com, like behind-the-scenes takes from People editors, celebrity interviews and interactive segments. People Premium also includes access to CelebFood, a recipe app and website, that offers a variety of recipes from celebrities. Are actors, actresses and musical artists good cooks? Of course they are! They’re famous. Famous people are great at everything.

In addition to People Premium, there’s People VIP. That subscription offering includes People in print, People Premium access, and three “editorially curated gift boxes” a year that are tied to People events and a six month gift subscription.

That’s a lot to digest. Here’s a quick recap of the new subscription options with pricing:

  • People in print: The weekly magazine ($112 per year)
  • People Digital Plus: Nothing in print. Access to People on tablets, all People apps and People Premium ($112 per year)
  • People All Access: The mag and Digital Plus ($132 per year)
  • People VIP: All of the above plus the gift boxes and gift subscription. ($200 per year)
