WNYC To Launch An Alternative To 'Morning Edition' While Carrying It TooListen up, "Morning Edition" listeners: In an attempt to reach a younger audience, WNYC, New York's public radio station, is teaming up with BBC, WGBH in Boston and New York Times Radio to produce a yet-to-be-named alternative to NPR's "Morning Edition." If it sounds familiar, it is: NPR announced earlier this year that it will also produce an yet-to-be-named show in the fall to reach the 35-to-44 set that's "young" for public radio demographics. Part of WNYC's $57.5 million capital fund is helping finance the costs. According to the New York Times, smaller public radio stations have been priced out of carrying Morning Edition and have been searching for alternatives. WNYC says it will carry the new show on its AM feed (820) while continuing to carry Morning Edition on 93.9-FM. In other words, WNYC wants to see if this catches on before it tinkers with its staples. Email This Post |
