Real World Creator Forms Documentary Film Division

real_world_nyc.jpgWith the reality television genre a victim of extreme overcrowding, the production company that started it all is moving on.

Bunim/Murray, creators of Real World, Road Rules, and The Simple Life, have launched a documentary division, charged with “shedding light on [subjects] that haven’t been focused on,” Jonathan Murray, the company’s co-founder and president, told FishbowlNY.

The first feature? Autism: The Musical, premiering this April at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Murray said moving into documentary film is a natural direction for Bunim/Murray, as “The Real World is a more commercial form of documentary.”

He also admitted that “there’s a lot of horrible reality stuff on air.”

A:TM will be screened four times in the New York area:

April 29, 4:00PM | Regal Cinemas Battery Park
May 3, 6:15PM | AMC Kips Bay
May 5, 1:30PM | AMC 34th Street
May 6, 11:15AM | AMC 34th Street
