Rich Barbieri Promoted at CNNMoney

Rich Barbieri has been promoted from deputy managing editor of CNNMoney to managing editor. Barbieri has been CNNMoney’s deputy managing editor since joining the site in 2007. He previously served as Crain’s New York’s managing editor, from 2005 to 2007.

In a note announcing the news, Lex Harris, CNNMoney’s executive editor, said “He’s the first one we all turn to when we have a question on a story. In short, he makes all of us smarter every day.”

Barbieri’s appointment is effective immediately. You can read Harris’ full memo below.

I am very happy to announce that we have a new Managing Editor: Rich Barbieri.

As the entire team knows, Rich has been the key to so much of our success over the past few years: He helped build CNNMoney’s newsroom into an international shop that does quality journalism. He built our relationships with newsgathering teams throughout CNN. He’s the first one we all turn to when we have a question on a story.

In short, he makes all of us smarter every day.

And now, as we enter the next phase for CNNMoney, who better to help lead us? We know the journalism will continue to be strong. And that he’ll always be available to help us make a tough editorial call (seriously, he is ALWAYS here).

Congratulations Rich!

Lex Haris
