The Toronto Sun Sets on Mayor Rob Ford

Last night, the media boom fell on Toronto mayor Rob Ford. The Toronto Sun, a paper that had been one of the embattled politician’s staunchest supporters, shifted their opinion page strategy. And this morning, they followed that op-ed jab with a front-page upper cut:

There have been many memorable reader-comment threads sparked in the Great White North by the Ford scandal(s); the hundreds of reactions that have poured in to the Sun‘s Wednesday night op-ed, which followed some final police investigation allegations about Ford, rank fairly high. At one point in the editorial, the paper plaintively wonders:

How Ford, in his capacity as the chief magistrate of Toronto, could repeatedly engage in such activities while mayor, exposing himself to the possibility of blackmail, is beyond comprehension.

Absolutely correct but, for many readers, too little, too late.
