Antoine Ashley, a contestant on Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, died earlier this week of heart failure, a representative told The Wrap.
The 27-year-old died Monday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Ashley, who went by the stage name of Sahara Davenport, appeared on the second season of the popular reality series. His TV credits also include One Life to Live, 15 Films About Madonna, and Magnificent Obsessions.
“I thank God for giving me an Angel Antoine Ashley to share with the rest of the world,” said Angela Ashley Reddish, Ashley’s mother. “My family and I would like to thank everyone for their condolences and support. We know that our Angel is now dancing in heaven. May God bless each and everyone.”
Logo will a marathon of Ashley’s season on Friday.
“Shocked & heartbroken over @SaharaDavenport,” RuPaul tweeted. “Never occurred to me that we’d ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal.”
