With the announcement that 2007-11 Sacramento Bee executive editor Melanie Sill is on her way to USC’s Annenberg School for a six-month executive-in-residence stint, the newspaper has revealed that current managing editor Joyce Terhaar (pictured) is being promoted to take her place.
The 51-year-old Terhaar, a native of Minnesota, has worked at the Bee since 1988. She officially takes over for the 52-year-old Sill on May 6th, and will also hold the title of senior vice president. Per Monday’s dispatch in the newspaper:
Although “we can’t continue to be all things to everyone,” Terhaar said the paper will maintain its investigative edge. “What we do best, what is most unique, is what we do with our watchdog journalism,” she told the staff.
One of Sill’s most intriguing legacies is “Sacremento Connect”, a network of 130 area bloggers that she initiated and which is hosted on the Bee‘s website.
