Outgoing CBS Evening News anchor Bob Schieffer on CNN’s Reliable Sources with Howard Kurtz on Sunday:

KURTZ: Now, Katie Couric takes over in September. She’s gotten an enormous amount of publicity. You just made some promos for her you’ve been running at the end of the Evening News. Is it possible that expectations have gotten too high for her debut because of all the press she’s generating?

SCHIEFFER: Well, this is going to be a problem. There’s no question about it. I mean, and one of the great advantages that I had, there were no expectations for me. Nobody thought, number one, I was going to be there for very long and, you know, he’s a nice, old guy and he’ll hold it together for awhile. Because of this enormous amount of attention, there will be high expectations.
