Seventeen.com Launches Augmented Reality Shopping App
Seventeen.com continues to up its interactivity. Back in June, we gave you a little tour of the site’s makeover and its increased focus on creating an online destination for teens to become more “sociable” with one another and with Seventeen editors alike. Now, the website has launched an augmented reality shopping application as part of JC Penney’s back-to-school collaboration with Hearst. The application is made possible by metaio, a company specializing in augmented reality applications.
Through motion capture technology, visitors to the site can try on clothing in a virtual dressing room using their webcams. They then have the option of buying the very items they’ve “tried on” through JC Penney’s website. The application also has a social media element, allowing teens to rate and share their favorite clothing items and accessories with friends via Facebook or email.
You can check it out for yourselves directly on Seventeen.com… and spend an hour of your precious work time playing around with different outfits in the process. Possibly. Maybe.
