“Let’s get this bad boy to No. 1,” Vine star Mendes told nearly 26,000 fans who were watching his live stream commemorating the release of his first EP on Sunday night.
Smiling at the camera in a small studio in Dallas, the 15-year-old urged the viewers to tweet #ShawnToNumber1, and within 37 minutes of making the EP available on iTunes, his music catapulted to the top spot on the iTunes Top Albums chart. Meanwhile, the hashtag became Twitter’s top trending topic as his army of 1.5 million followers rallied in support.
Currently on tour with Austin Mahone, The Vamps and Fifth Harmony, Mendes will be stopping by the Today show August 21. He made his U.S. TV debut last Thursday on Live with Kelly and Michael.
