Shirley Sherrod Sues Andrew Breitbart After All

She waited a few months, but former Georgia director for rural development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Shirley Sherrod is filing suit against blogger and conservative agitator Andrew Breitbart. The suit claims Sherrod suffered “defamation, false light and intentional infliction of emotional distress” after Breitbart and fellow Big Government blogger Larry O’Connor, who’s also named in the suit, posted out of context video of Sherrod, in which she appeared to advocate discrimination against white farmers. The ensuing controversy cost Sherrod her job, before it was discovered Sherrod’s story was a redemptive tale and she was highly thought of by farmers of all stripes in her home state.

According to the LA Times, the suit “seeks punitive damages. It also requests that Brietbart and his company remove all “defamatory language and video” from his blog at BigGovernment.com — as well as from YouTube.”

The fallout from Big Government‘s mistreatment of Sherrod sucked away a great deal of the site’s mojo. We’ll be curious to see if this suit helps get the site some attention, or if it furthers its decline.
