Sicko: YouTube’s Greatest Pirate Hit

weinstein_060607.jpgDevastated?

Film distribution in the post-YouTube age has its pitfalls. For instance, when your film gets leaked to YouTube and Google Video. Michael Moore‘s latest, Sicko, was uploaded for viewing to both sites this past weekend (quite possibly, coincidentally, in time for the start of the week’s new media cycle). But did Moore have a hand in it? He was asked by the Hollywood Reporter and he replied “No. The (Weinstein) brothers are devastated.” Except that, in the past, Moore has said he’s okay with movie piracy.

The interesting thing here? Although Sicko was available from peer-to-peer content sites last week, the film’s first YouTube/Google Video appearences weren’t until the weekend. For his part, Harvey Weinstein is not amused.
