Stations Take to the Ground, Sky for Deadly Empire State Building Shooting

As a gunman opened fire in Midtown Manhattan this morning, TV stations were quick to break in with coverage. Our sister site, TVSpy reports, that none was quicker than WABC/Channel 7.

WABC hit the air at 9:16 a.m. with anchor Phil Lipof and chopper reporter Shannon Sohn. WCBS/Channel 2 went with wall-to-wall coverage four minutes later.

WABC did have an embarrassing moment at one point when a prankster called as a witness. “Howard Stern came in and took him,” the caller told Lipof.

At least two people, including the gunman, were killed.

TVSpy has much more on today’s coverage near the Empire State Building.
