Steve Snyder Named Assistant Managing Editor of Time.com

Time has promoted Steve Snyder from senior editor to assistant managing editor of Time.com. Snyder has been with Time since 2009, when he joined as an associate editor and helped launch Time.com’s Newsfeed. He was also the lead culture critic for Time’s Techland vertical.

“Steve has touched — and improved — nearly every aspect of Time’s digital operation,” said Time’s managing editor, Richard Stengel, in announcing the change. “His enthusiasm and curiosity have helped shape the site’s tone, tempo and ambitions.”

The complete memo about Snyder’s promotion is after the jump.

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Steve Snyder has been named Assistant Managing Editor of TIME.com.  Is there a subject under the sun that he is not interested in? In his six years at TIME, Steve’s many roles demonstrate  his Renaissance man chops: weekend producer, podcast engineer, social media devotee, Techland culture critic, entertainment writer, NewsFeed co-founder, homepage editor and assignment editor. Steve has touched—and improved—nearly every aspect of TIME’s digital operation. His enthusiasm and curiosity have helped shape the site’s tone, tempo and ambitions. He is the first to celebrate TIME.com’s traffic victories and he has also been a leading advocate for more online enterprise reporting, explanatory writing and social media experiments. He’s been integral to the evolution of TIME.com’s internal structure, traveling to Hong Kong and London to better coordinate the website’s three bureaus, rethinking the website’s morning news push and serving as a liaison between the magazine and website staffs.

Before coming to TIME, Steve was a features writer and arts critic, reviewing films for Artforum, Time Out New York and the New York Sun while also serving as a staff features writer at Newsday. He was an editor with NBCOlympics.com during the 2004 Athens Olympics, as the network expanded the games’ online footprint, and served as film editor of the San Francisco-based SOMA magazine. He is an alum of both the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Minnesota, where he was arts editor of the Minnesota Daily and developed his irrationally excessive love for the Green Bay Packers, Bon Iver, cheese curds and the Coen Brothers. Please join us in congratulating Steve on his well-deserved promotion.
