While WCBS/Channel 2 may not be ready to declare victory in the November sweeps (officially ending tomorrow), the station did register impressive year-to-year growth, based on figures obtained by FishbowlNY from WCBS.
Overall, WCBS saw huge increases in the morning. The 4:30 a.m. newscast, with anchors Rob Morrison and Mary Calvi rocketed 50 percent in Adults 25 to 54, 5:00 a.m. improved 17 percent in Households and 50 percent in Adults 25 to 54, while 6:00 a.m. was up 10 percent in Households and 29 percent in Adults 25 to 54.
The noon newscast also moved into positive territory, up 12 percent in Households and 20 percent in Adults 25 to 54. At 6 p.m. newscasts saw minimal gains from last year, up three percent in Households.
The good news continues for WCBS, which moves into a first-place tie at 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. in Households.
As for the highly competitive 5 p.m. timeslot, WCBS has erased a large chuck of WABC/Channel 7′s advantage from a year ago.
After trailing WABC by 1.5 Household rating points last November, Channel 2 sits just seventh-tenths of a point out of first place. WCBS says this is the smallest difference between the two newscasts during a November sweep since at least 2004, when Nielsen introduced Local People Meters.
