Adam Lambert Fans Rightfully Rise Up Against Complaining Wiltern Journalist

While article author Lindsay Taub tweeted that upsetting Adam Lambert fans was not her intention and the online publication where her piece was published came to her defense, the bottom line is she deserves the vociferous comment criticism received.

Taub’s beef is basically that when she approached fellow concertgoer Lambert at a recent Wiltern Theatre Joss Stone concert, on behalf of her crazed-fan friend, he had the audacity to tell her to catch up to him after the show. The American Idol superstar was crossing the lobby at the time, headed back to his seats with beverages in hand:

Okay, so he was holding two beers. It’s not like he was being mobbed… If it was really such a big deal that he was carrying two beers, he could’ve asked me to hold one, or he could’ve asked my friend to hold one. He could’ve said, “wait here while I take these to my seats and I’ll come right back.” He could have said, “follow me to my seat so I can put these down.” Anything! Or just taken the two seconds to take a photo.

Adam Lambert Still Adjusting to Life as a ‘Gay Celebrity’

The latest cover story in The Advocate is an interview with American Idol‘s most memorable runner-up, Adam Lambert. All about the nature of his post-Simon celebrity as he puts the finishing touches on a second album.

The good news is that Lambert continues to become more comfortable with the media spotlight and says that being in a healthy personal relationship (which he currently is) helps a great deal. The not-so-good news is that many outlets still want to harp on his sexuality:

“It’s been the weirdest battle with identifying as a gay man in mainstream culture,” he says. “I think The Advocate is an exception—I think a respected gay publication treats it differently–but in regular journalism they make such a big deal out of homosexuality!…”

EXCLUSIVE: Getting to Know an LA Times ‘Gossip’ Queen

Our report last week about the record-breaking August numbers for LATimes.com included the rather remarkable stat of 3.5 million page views registered by the relatively new blog “Ministry of Gossip.” So we thought we’d check in with Christie D’Zurilla (pictured), the USC print journalism and chemistry major (!) who runs the site. She began her career at the Orange County Register before landing at the Times feature-entertainment copy desk in 2003.

“When we started the blog from scratch, the idea of hitting a million monthly page views seemed outrageous,” D’Zurilla tells FishbowlLA via email, “until we did it the first full month out of the gate (thanks, Tiger Woods and Adam Lambert). One of the coolest things about our August numbers and what they represent is that our readers came for a variety of stories across the board, rather than spiking on some huge scandal that broke on a holiday weekend.”

D’Zurilla, who shares the Ministry page with fellow blogger Matt Donnelly, references one of his recent items as an example of the fringe benefits that come with increased traffic. “I was the first person to hunt down and interview the Old Spice Guy, Isaiah Mustafa, in February 2010. Back then, it took eight days before anyone found the story and picked it up–even counting our LAT compadres.”

Adam Lambert’s Clandestine Videographer Says ‘Thank You’

A San Diego educator by day, she is known among the rabid community of Adam Lambert fans simply as Suz526. Starting at a concert in Portland, Oregon in July of 2009, she has shot ongoing video footage of the singer’s live concert performances and quickly posted it up as she goes on YouTube.

Suz526′s notoriety reached its peak last month when, aided by the online contributions of several hundred fans, she and helper VITO followed Lambert’s “Glam Nation Tour” to Europe. She has now returned, and while branching out to document other entertainers, she posted a thank you message to her supporters this past Monday.

Senator-Elect Scott Brown is Still His Daughter’s Talent Manager

6278_article.jpg
Of course Richard Rushfield scored an interview with American Idol Season 5 semi-finalist Ayla Brown. He quite possibly has talked with most semi-finalists from all the seasons. Rushfield is just that type of beat reporter.

Okay, for those of you not paying attention, Massachusetts elected a Republican senator. His name is Scott Brown. Brown’s daughter was on a reality show four years ago. The funny thing is even Mr. Brown is going to Washington, he’s still managing to (ahem) manage his daughter.

Rushfield writes at Daily Beast:

Will Ayla’s father still be her manager when he is Senator Brown? Ayla said that remains undecided, but indicates that he has been reluctant to give up the job. “Since the campaign, we’ve been trying to deal with stuff without him, but whenever he hears about an interview or anything he says, ‘Why wasn’t I filled in on this?’”

For his part, asked whether his time under the Idol tent taught him any lessons about politics, the senator-elect demurred, saying Idol is entertainment and politics is about grapping with real issues. (Brown apparently has never met Adam Lambert‘s fanbase.)

New York Post‘s Lambert Headline Gaffe

nypostlambert.jpg

Looks like the fact checkers at The New York Post may have taken off early for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Today’s paper features a headline about former “American Idol” contestant Adam Lambert and his scandalous “Good Morning America” concert cancellation and shift to CBS but, as our sister blog TVNewser points out, the Post has confused what network “Good Morning America” is on.

That would be ABC, not NBC, Post headline writers.

Simon Dumenco Takes on Huffpo…Again

pshaw22.pngAd Age media columnist, Simon Dumenco pulls no punches when it comes to Huffpo. He once called the site a ‘media plantation.’ A line we quote at cocktail parties all the time…unless they’re thrown at Arianna’s house. Ahem.

Dumenco’s latest takes exception to Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications given Arianna Huffington the Fred Dressler Lifetime Achievement Award:

Funny how the fact that The Huffington Post fails to pay most of its bloggers didn’t come up when Newhouse Dean Lorraine Branham gushed about the blog mistress in a prepared statement: “Arianna Huffington was ahead of the curve with HuffPo. She embraced the use of new media but never forgot that no matter where or how you tell the story, content is still king. This is what we teach our students.”

Oh, give me a break! Content, in Arianna’s world, is not king, and it never was. Link bait is king; opportunism is king.

Yep, and the phrases “Britney Spears Naked” and “John and Kate Plus 8 Break Up” and “Adam Lambert” are going to get this message out there.
