New York Times Mag Editor Adam Sternbergh Sells First Novel

Adam Sternbergh, the culture editor at The New York Times Magazine, has sold his first novel. The 6th Floor, the official New York Times Magazine blog, reports that the book — titled Shovel Ready — was bought by Crown Publishing.

Shovel Ready is about a garbageman who turns into a hitman. Sounds interesting.

Sternbergh has been culture editor of the Times Magazine since late 2010. Prior to that he was an editor-at-large for New York.

Lindgren Does It Again: Sam Anderson To New York Times Magazine

Yesterday Hugo Lindgren raised a few eyebrows by hiring Adam Sternbergh away from rival New York magazine.  Today Lindgren fired another shot at former boss Adam Moss by adding book critic Sam Anderson to his staff at the New York Times Magazine.  Moss, the editor at New York since the end of 2003, did not hide his disappointment with the loss of Anderson in a memo he released to his staff.

It appears as though Moss is getting the Obi Wan Kenobi treatment as Lindgren has taken a nasty Anakin Skywalker-like turn on his mentor.  Read Moss’s reaction to Anderson’s move below.

Adam Sternbergh Jumps To New York Times Magazine

Fire up your Peaches & Herb album because Hugo Lindgren and Adam Sternbergh are reunited and it feels so good.  That’s the latest news from The Observer which is reporting that Sternbergh has left his post as editor-at-large at New York magazine to fill the culture editor spot at Lindgren’s New York Times Magazine.  Lindgren and Sternbergh previously worked together at New York and were colleagues up until January 2010 when Lindgren left for Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

Lindgren, who was named editor at NYT magazine in September, is glad to have the opportunity to work with Sternbergh again:

Adam’s got really good, broad taste and a lot of enthusiasm for a wide range of cultural subjects. He has a great sense of humor and a light touch — just the kind of person you’d want to see in the office in the morning.

Sternbergh’s role in the culture section will be further defined once the magazine rolls out their redesign at the end of February.

Entertainment Weekly Editor Joins NYMag.com

wolk.jpgNYMag.com, the ever-expanding Web site of New York magazine, today announced the hiring of Entertainment Weekly senior editor Josh Wolk as entertainment editor for the site.

In his new role, set to begin November 17, Wolk will oversee an expansion of NYMag.com’s Vulture blog. The first phase of the revamped blog will debut next week, with the introduction of Vulture TV Recaps. Building on the popularity of NYMag.com’s current recaps of shows like “Gossip Girl,” the new Vulture Recaps will cover about 20 current shows. The recaps will be written up by the magazine’s talented stable of writers, including Logan Hill, Will Leitch, Emily Nussbaum and Adam Sternbergh.

As the writer of EW.com first regular TV recap, Wolk seems like the best choice for NYMag.com as it seeks to expand its online content selections.
