Rodale Names First CTO

Rodale has named Bobby Chowdhury its first dedicated chief technology officer. Chowdhury comes to the company after spending four years with Condé Nast as its vice president of engineering and digital technology. Prior to that he was CTO of United Media & Scripps Ventures for 15 years.

“As we begin an important year for the company, Bobby’s valuable expertise and management background will help us turn our IT infrastructure into a strategic asset,” said Anthony Astarita, Rodale’s general manager/senior vice president of digital and new brand development, in a statement. “His entrepreneurial spirit coupled with his deep knowledge of software development and back-end systems management for media companies and VC-backed startups make him a key partner for our business.”

Chowdhury’s appointment is effective immediately.

Rodale Promotes in Digital Development Department

Rodale Inc. has promoted Matt Bean has been promoted from Associate Vice President, Mobile, Social and Emerging Media, to Vice President of Digital Product Development.

Bean will report to Anthony Astarita, Senior Vice President, General Manager, Digital & New Brand Development.

“From the very beginning, Matt has been on the cutting edge of the digital landscape, strategically reaching new audiences for Rodale across multi-platform touch points,” said Astarita. “Matt is adept at elevating content and adopting new technologies, and I am confident that his talents will set us up for a really strong year and beyond.”

Rodale Nabs Barnes & Noble Exec

Rodale has hired Anthony Astarita as its new Senior Vice President and General Manager for Digital and Brand Development. Astarita comes to Rodale from Barnes & Noble, where he most recently worked as Vice President, General Manager for e-Commerce and Digital Products. Astarita was one of the minds behind the Nook, Barnes & Noble’s e-reader.

Maria Rodale, Rodale’s CEO, said Astarita brings, “a wealth of digital expertise and notable credibility to the ambitious digital efforts Rodale has set for 2012 and beyond. He’s poised to expand our global digital business to better serve our customers around the world.”
