Kurt Vonnegut, Dead at 84

11vonnegut-600.jpgThe NYT had its finger on the “send” trigger, apparently, and popped this lovely obit up minutes after his death was announced.

It ends with the poem Requiem, from Vonnegut’s 2005 book, A Man Without a Country.

When the last living thing/ has died on account of us,/ how poetical it would be/ if Earth could say,/ in a voice floating up/ perhaps/ from the floor/ of the Grand Canyon,/ “It is done.”/ People did not like it here.

But even better than the NYT, better than Cory Doctorow’s obit, even, is the piece by Kevin F. Sherry on Big Action (a site this half of FBLA contributes to). Seems Vonnegut saved Kevin’s life. So it goes.

LA Observed notes a new LAT hire.

Big Action! decides the entire Viacom/Google fiasco comes down to one thing: Squirrel Melts.

TMZ breaks the “story” that a judge in the Anna Nicole Smith case has ordered a DNA test of Howard K. Stern. Sure TMZ had the exclusive, but we hear Usmagazine.com has a reporter hiding out in Stern’s cheek, awaiting the actual swab.
