Thanks to Billy Bush, Olympic Announcers Gliding from Russian Rink to Red Carpet

JohnnyWeirTaraLipinskyThe massive media attention paid during the Sochi Winter Olympics to Bob Costas‘ eye problems and replacement-duty by Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira obscured another worthy performance: Billy Bush. The Access Hollywood host was sensationally smooth and entertaining throughout and now, for his Oscar weekend duties, is bringing a piece of the Olympics with him.

Per a report by LA Times film reporter Amy Kaufman, it is thanks to Bush that the post-Oscar episodes of the entertainment news magazine will have a very unlikely additional fashion critic duoJohnny Weir and Tara Lipinski:

Bush was the one who suggested the skating experts move their act from the ice rink to the red carpet. While conducting an interview with Weir in Russia, he suddenly had a stroke of inspiration, said Rob Silverstein, the entertainment show’s executive producer.

Dave Karger’s Incredible Oscar Nominations Thursday

In this week’s edition of the Mediabistro Q&A series “So What Do You Do…,” Dave Karger hints at just how crazy the annual Oscar nominations day is for him as a working journalist. To get a full sense of what he goes through each year, we wanted to share from our conversation the Fandango chief correspondent’s full description of last week’s frenetic LA-to-New-York-to-LA mad dash:

“What made it difficult was that on Wednesday night, I had committed to hosting the official People’s Choice Awards red carpet show with SuChin Pak and Tim Gunn. So I was in LA on Wednesday night and had to take the red eye and land in New York at 5:30 a.m. ET on Thursday. I have an apartment in New York, so that gave me just enough time to run home, jump in the shower and get to The Today Show for the Oscars nominations announcement at 8:30 a.m. ET.”

Actor James Marsden in the Middle of More Barry Manilow Funny Business

Last month, singer Barry Manilow was famously inserted into a 2012 World Series telecast by analyst Tim McCarver, who blanked on a Joe Buck reference about old-day cheers for Barry Bonds and meandered into foul pop culture territory. Now comes an equally hilarious Copaca-doozy involving actor James Marsden.

During a panel discussion at the Napa Valley Film Festival, moderator Billy Bush (Access Hollywood) picked up on the actor’s IMDb bio-trivia page, which stated that Marsden is a huge Manilow fan. Wrong. Per The Hollywood Reporter magazine item by Merle Ginsberg and Gary Baum:

“I have a famous actor friend of mine – I won’t tell you who he is – but he likes to go into other people’s [IMDb] bios and add things,” Marsden explained.

Sunday Dinner Web Series Kicks Off at Scott Wolf’s House

Yahoo’s latest original series offering brings to mind Jon Favreau’s old IFC show Dinner for Five. And that’s a good thing.

The program is shorter (about seven minutes) and, ahead of future guests such as Fran Drescher, TV host Billy Bush and one-time Bond Hazzard County girl Catherine Bach, this OMG! concoction hosted by Tristen MacDonald kicks off today with a visit to actor Scott Wolf’s house. Helping the actor and his wife Kelley cook up a beef bourguignon storm are his brother, a cousin with spouse and a pair of newlywed friends.

Report: Access Hollywood Lays Off 14

Even successful television shows aren’t immune to layoffs as The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reports that Access Hollywood laid off 14 employees Wednesday:

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, an Access Hollywood spokesperson would only say that the show had made “staffing adjustments that make sense for our business and position us well for the future.”

The Access Hollywood layoffs hit hardest in the research department, according to a source.

Breath easy, Billy Bush fans — there are no changes with the on-air talent.

Access Hollywood is averaging 2.8 million viewers per day and is tied with TMZ for second in the daily entertainment news magazines ratings with with a 2.0.

Impersonator Speaks Out on Fooling the AP

It’s not every day an impersonator pulls a fast one on The Associated Press.

Washington D.C. radio producer Marc Sterne did his best Christopher Walken on Friday’s “The Tony Kornheiser Show” on ESPN 980. An AP reporter heard Sterne on the radio and thought it was Walken discussing the Natalie Wood investigation.

“After it aired and AP ran with it, everybody was calling the radio station saying we need the audio,” Sterne told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Monday. “Finally there was a producer that tracked me down and said, ‘Can you just send me the audio?’ and I said, ‘Oh sweetheart, you’re going to be really embarrassed in about three seconds.’ And she said, ‘Why?’ And I said, (puts on Christopher Walken voice) ‘Because it’s me Chris right here, talking to you… It’s me doing the Chris Walken voice.’”

Hilary Duff Shoots, NHL Hubby Scores

On the latest installment of Billy Bush‘s radio show, actress Hilary Duff shared some interesting sexting strategies. She feels that as long as she sends naughty pictures of herself with her body only showing (e.g. not the face), they are safe from nasty replication. Especially since the recipient also happens to be her trusted hubby, NHL Pittsburgh Penguins center Mike Comrie.

Miss California Organization Bought Miss USA Contestant Big Fake Boobs

In an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, Shanna Moakler, the co-executive director of the Miss California Organization, confirmed that the group paid for Miss California Carrie Prejean‘s breast implants. Prejean sparked a media frenzy when she spoke out against gay marriage during the Miss USA competition a couple weeks ago. While she’s gone on to make several media appearances discussing her stance on same-sex marriage, according to Moakler, Prejean won’t even return calls to her bosses at the Miss California organization.

In her defense, she’s been busy. Prejean has formed a partnership with the anti-gay group National Organization for Marriage. Today they released the following advert:
