In mediabistro.com’s latest So What Do You  Do? interview, the host of Inside the Actor’s Studio talked about why he ditched law school for acting and studying under greats like Stella Adler and Harold Clurman of New York’s legendary Group Theatre.

“When I moved out to New York, I was going to go to continue my education in the law. That was always the intention; I was going to be a lawyer. But I had to work as well, you see, and so I looked around me and I saw that the [acting] track was pretty fast. And I thought that if I was going to work in New York as an actor I should study some of that at least. Otherwise, I’d be unemployed and I’d starve to death and terrible things would happen.”

The 36-year-old Cooper had a humble reaction to the news. “I think it’s really cool that a guy who doesn’t look like a model can have this [title],” Cooper told People. “I think I’m a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying.”

We’re kind of surprised that Gosling didn’t win, but Cooper is a good choice. We once passed by him in Union Square, and while we wanted to say something snarky about him or his movies, his hair was so fantastic we simply could not do it.

What’s that old saying, “sex sells”?  In the past month People magazine provided some strong evidence to back that credo by raising over $218,000 for charity through their “Sexiest Man Alive” auctions.  People partnered up with online charity auction leader charitybuzz, to offer readers a chance to bid on once-in-a-lifetime experiences with the sexiest men featured in their pages over the past 25 years.  The bidding ran from Nov. 17 through Dec. 15 and all proceeds benefited the celebrity’s preferred charity.

The highest bid of all the “Sexiest Man Alive” auctions was for the chance to meet Prince William at the Chakravarty Cup Polo Match.  Other experiences included a swimming lesson with Michael Phelps and a tickets to a Bon Jovi concert along with a meet-and-greet.  Some other celebrities that participated include Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper, and Ricky Martin.

Our colleagues over at FishbowlDC have extensive coverage of the weekend in the capitol. They hit all the fashionable pre-parties including ones hosted by The National Journal and The Atlantic and CBS. They hung out with celebs like Connie Britton, Ellen Burstyn, Tim Daly, Dana Delany, Kerry Washington and Rachael Leigh Cook at the Creative Coalition’s Thursday night fete and spied Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Rashida Jones, Jon Bon Jovi, Owen Wilson, Jason Bateman, Natalie Portman, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Brad Hall, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Dennis Leary, Glenn Close and BJ Novak at the Vanity Fair/Bloomberg after-party.
