As global fashion director, Roitfeld will work with Stephen Gan, creative director of Harper’s Bazaar, on several stories a year, starting with the March 2013 issue.

More details on CR: The debut issue is 288 pages, there will be 50,000 copies printed and Roitfeld has promised to “find new ways to be irreverent” within the book. Also, Fashion Media Group’s founder, Stephen Gan, is officially drunk on Roitfeld Kool-Aid.

“Carine Roitfeld is one of the most talented editors in our industry,” Gan told WWD. “She deserves an editorial platform with which to express herself, and I’m happy to provide one. I hope it will enlighten. I hope it will build bridges not walls.”

If CR ends up merely a magazine full of nice pictures and clothes, someone please check in on Gan, okay?

The New York Times reported yesterday that Emmanuelle Alt and Carine Roitfeld are no longer speaking to each other. The two worked closely together during Roitfeld’s reign as Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, but when Roitfeld resigned and Alt took her place, something, apparently went wrong.

Both are refusing to explain why their friendship hasn’t made it past the changes, so expect the rumor mills to really churn some good stuff out.

Despite the rift, they both appear to be moving on. When questioned about her departure, Roitfeld was optimistic, explaining, “I’m very sad, but in a way I’m very happy, too.” Alt similarly commented, “I don’t look back and see clouds anywhere. Carine is someone who needs to be free.”

Carine Roitfeld turned a few heads last month when she announced that she would be vacating her post as editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris.  A WWD report indicates that sources close to the situation believe French Vogue’s fashion director Emmanuelle Alt is the current clubhouse leader to succeed Roitfeld.  One other name in the mix for the editor-in-chief role is Virginie Mouzat, the fashion editor of French newspaper Le Figaro.

Patricia Goldman Communication, the firm that oversees media relations for Condé Nast France, said that no decision has been made on Roitfeld’s successor.  Her replacement is expected to be named next week.

Here’s quite a bit of news for the worlds of fashion and publishing alike: Carine Roitfeld today announced her plans to step down as editor in chief of French Vogue this coming January.

It isn’t much of a stretch to say that Roitfeld is currently one of the most influential names in the fashion industry, in one of publishing’s most coveted positions. She took an incredibly hands-on approach to the magazine, often styling shoots herself. Her name also manages to pop up fairly consistently when talk turns to who might eventually take on longtime American Vogue editor Anna Wintour‘s place.

Roitfeld told The New York Times that, after a decade at the magazine’s helm, she is ready to “try something new,” adding that it was best to leave when “everything is good.” As for her future plans, Roitfeld says she has nothing specific for the near future.
