Meredith Taps Caroline Marks As GM, Parents And Lifestyle Digital

Today Meredith Corp. named  Caroline Marks the company’s first ever general manager, parents and lifestyle digital.  In the new position, Marks will manage business strategy and product development for the parents network of sites and work to boost Meredith’s social/lifestyle content such as Real Girls Media.  Marks will work under Liz Schimel, EVP CRM and digital.  Schimel is confident Marks will enhance Meredith’s value among female audiences.

We are excited to bring someone with Caroline’s diverse experience in the global digital marketplace to Meredith.  Her deep knowledge of the digital landscape and experience developing digital media brands will enable us to build on our industry-leading position and reach with women.

Prior to joining Meredith, Marks was GM for The Daily Beast.  She also has worked for the Comcast Corportion, Ziddio, and British Telecom Wireless.

The Daily Beast: Advertising Deal in the Works

picture-4.pngCrain’s currently has a piece up about The Daily Beast‘s advertising plan, or apparent lack thereof. The article reports that Tina Brown and company have yet to seriously pursue any ad deals — the site has been primarily ad free since it launched — and instead appear to be counting on the deep pockets of Beast backer Barry Diller.

At a panel in January Beast general manager Caroline Marks touched on the topic saying the site was “in a stage of evolving ad and sponsorship, and that “The Beast isn’t an open ended thing — there is a realistic time frame…Barry [Diller] runs businesses we are expected to run ourselves as a business.”

During a talk in February, Brown herself addressed the matter saying the Beast wanted to “create interesting looking advertising models, and places to do it on our site, and we want it to be as strongly and stylishly designed as the rest of it.”

Lunch With the Beast, Twestival with Charity:Water

3275881181_fa827d166e.jpgSocial Media Week continued in New York yesterday with a lunchtime Daily Beast panel and the Nielsen Building on Astor Place followed by last night’s packed Twestival party at M:5, which raised over $22,000 for Charity:Water. Meanwhile at the “Lunch With the Beast” event Beast GM Caroline Marks described the site as “Tina Brown‘s guided tour through the media jungle,” saying that the layout of the site had to be something that “aesthetically Tina related to…that felt glossy.”
