British Town & Country to Debut This Week

Town & Country is making its British debut this Thursday. The title — edited by Justine Picardie, editor of UK Harper’s Bazaar — will feature Downton Abbey actress Lily James on the cover. James is no Scott Eastwood, but she seems like an okay choice.

According to WWD, the James piece was written by Andrew O’Hagan. Other contributors to the first issue of British T&C include Harry Mount, Catherine Mayer and Sophie Elmhirst.

British T&C will run Brits 5.95 pounds (about $10) and be published biannually this year and quarterly in 2015.

Time Promotes Three, Hires 11 Staffers

timemagazinelogoNancy Gibbs hasn’t been managing editor of Time for long, but she has already made some big moves. Gibbs just sent out a memo announcing three promotions and 11 new hires. Below are the details, followed by Gibbs’ full note.

Gibbs’ memo:

Time Launches Olympic Site

To prepare everyone for all that the Olympics bring — cheering for people swimming back and forth in a straight line many times, being disappointed in athletes who are far superior to us — Time has launched a special site dedicated to the games.

Olympics.Time.com features a wide array of content, from 50 competitors we should all be watching to a slideshow packed with some great Time Olympic issue covers of the past.

“From now through the end of the Games, Time’s London bureau, led by Europe editor Catherine Mayer, will have daily coverage of the athletic and cultural phenomenon that is the Summer Olympics,” added Time.com’s managing editor, Cathy Sharick, in a memo.

Time Names New Europe Editor

Time has promoted Catherine Mayer to the role of Europe Editor. Mayer joined Time in 2004 and has been the magazine’s London Bureau Chief since 2006.

Mayer now joins the ranks of  Jim Frederick, Time International’s Editor and Zoher Abdoolcarim, the magazine’s Asia Editor.

“She [Mayer] will help Time expand, deepen and enrich our international coverage on all platforms and work closely with our business side to seek out new opportunities for growth,” wrote Rick Stengel in an internal memo. He added that she will continue to pen British culture pieces and profiles “as often as her new duties will allow.”

Time Tackles News Corp. Scandal

The latest issue of Time not only features a fantastic cover, but a great article on the News Corp. scandal by the magazine’s London Bureau Chief, Catherine Mayer. In the piece, Mayer discusses what News Corp. is up against now and where the company could end up.

As for the juicy stuff, Mayer has sources who tell Time some of the more sleazy ways in which reporters at News of The World and other News Corp. units allegedly got their stores:
