Time Launches Sports Blog

Please prepare yourself for sports pun overload. All set? Okay, here we go. Time is hoping for a home run with its new sports blog, Keeping Score. The site will be quarterbacked by Sean Gregory, who has been on the Time team for about 10 years. Keeping Score will feature more than just stats; its goal is to tackle all the related controversies and issues.

“By writing about everything from U.S. favorites such as football, basketball, baseball, hockey, tennis, golf and college sports to international passions like soccer, cricket, rugby, gymnastics and of course the Olympics, the new blog will cover the areas that play out in the sports arena — business, economics, culture, politics, health, and as we’ve seen with Tebowmania, religion,” said Time.com’s Managing Editor, Catherine Sharick.

Gregory will lead the blog’s squad, but he’ll have plenty of help. Ishaan Tharoor, Hannah Beech, Nick Carbone, Bobby Ghosh, Tony Karon, Adam Sorensen, Glen Levy, Alice Park, Feifei Sun, Nate Rawlings, Josh Sanburn, Tim Morrison and Bill Saporito will all contribute winning content.

We’d go on, but we’re sure that blitz of information is more than enough.

Time.com Launches Business Vertical

Time.com has expanded once again, this time launching Time Business. The vertical will be overseen by Moneyland founding Scott Medintz and cover Wall Street, trends, breaking news, small businesses, Fortune 500 companies and much more.

Other names you’ll see popping up on Time Business include Sam GustinChristopher Matthews, Stephen Gandel, Roya Wolverson, Michael Schuman, Bill Saporito and Rana Foroohar.

Time’com’s new Managing Editor, Catherine Sharick, said in an internal memo announcing the site, “Time Business is just the latest launch in Time.com’s successful vertical strategy. The growing array of compelling subject specific mini-sites, including Ideas, Entertainment, Newsfeed and Lightbox, helped drive double digit traffic growth in 2011.”

Time.com Names Managing Editor

Catherine Sharick has been promoted from Executive Director of Time.com to Managing Editor. Sharick has been with Time since 2002, when she joined the company as a Web Producer. Prior to Time, Sharick worked at Random House and Simon & Schuster.

John Huey said of Sharick, “Working closely with the last couple of managing editors of the site, Cathy has been a big part of Time.com’s dramatic success so far, and she will be an even more important contributor to its future success.”

“It is an understatement to say that she has earned this job,” said Rick Stengel in an internal memo announcing the promotion. “She leads by example, by her deep knowledge and understanding and an abiding sense of fairness. She is devoted to Time, to what we stand for, and to the highest standards of excellence.”
